Winter Activities Update

Wildwood Catholic Academy Presents “She Loves Me”

Congratulations to the WCA Theater Program for spectacular performances featuring Broadway’s “She Loves Me.” A special farewell to our seniors who took their final bows on stage as part of the program, Aidan Bradley, Lena Dougherty and Shaniya Mann. Bravo for a job well done to all.

While very little this season resembled traditional seasons of years past, the WCA boys and girls basketball programs, cheer team, and swim team were still able to suit up and compete on their respective fields of play. Unfortunately, COVID impacted each of our programs at some stage in the season so not all programs could play the full schedule of allotted competitions, but in those we were able to perform, we showed very well.

WInter Sports Wrap Up

The boys program played just 5 games, finishing with a record of 3 wins and 2 close losses. Seniors Da’Sean Lopez, David Zarfati, Martin Anguelov, and Jared Hopping led the way with meaningful contributions from fellow seniors Matt Moretti, Andrew Draghi, and Liam Grimes. First Team CAL recognition was awarded to Lopez, Anguelov, and junior Nick Montalbano. On the girls side, The Lady Crusaders were able to complete most of their season, finishing as the Non-Public Champion within their conference. Along the way, Coach Steve DiPatri won his 500th game as a head coach with a win over local rival Lower Cape May Regional. The senior class of Lauren McCallion, Alyia Gray-Rivera, Riley Kane, and Marianna Papazoglou capped off their careers with an overtime win in the final game of the season in Sr. Mary Ellen Ford Gymnasium against Life Center Academy. First team CAL recognition was awarded to Papazoglou and junior Kimmy Casiello. Papazoglou also was awarded McDonald’s All-American and became the all-time leading point scorer in girls basketball history at WCA.

Although restricted, the Cheer team joined in with supportive chants during the game, and conducted an outstanding half-time routine that featured the very first male cheerleader in school history, senior Aidan Bradley. The swim team is almost finished for the season with one meet remaining. Led by seniors Amanda Bogle, Julia Sorensen, and James Sawyer, the Crusader swimmers have traversed through the unsettled waters of the Covid pandemic and competed strongly in a very talented conference. With a little break upcoming, Spring sports are upon us with our golf, track, boys tennis, and softball teams gearing up for a return to action on April 1 after losing their season last Spring.
